We've decided to try a little experiment here. Could we assemble a list of places around an event by using a well-known person as our base criteria?
It turns out that even if "trust in peers" trumps A-List, using a proxy to derive interest works quite well (we know, we have been working on this for a while).
So we picked Fred Wilson (and his extended network) to help us choose places in NYC for our trip to the Conversational Marketing Summit. That works quite well, because he's a prolific blogger and shares a lot of places in social/conversational media. He's even using these smartlinks to refer automatically to defined concepts and we thought places would be a great addition to his collection of links. And since he has already blogged about taste neighbors, we believe he would love the concept.
Here's a few select NYC picks from blog posts (with source blog post in via link)
- Little Owl
(via) - Gramercy Tavern
(via) - Spotted Pig
(via) - Mary's fish camp
(via) - Barrio Chino
(via) - Babbo

An excerpt from the site to give you an idea of the scope :
To keep building our brands, we have to go where the audience has gone. And every month, more than 600 million people visit conversational media sites -foreign lands when it comes to brand marketing. Or ....are they?
Praized will be there to cover the event and enjoy all the interesting places around...
- What kind of marketing works in social media?
- Which of the lessons learned from marketing in traditional media apply when the audience joins the conversation?
- Why will we pay an $80 CPM to reach women, 18-34, in Vogue, but just $3 to reach the same audience online?
- What do we make of the promised new platforms from Google, AOL, Microsoft, and Yahoo?
- Are CPC networks simply harvesting the hard won brand value we've built offline?
- How does one create engagement and build brands in the context of conversational media?
- What are the online analogs to the executions we so love in magazines and television, and how do we execute them?
- Who's already doing it right, and how?
Praized could have almost made the launchpad but we are not quite ready yet for prime time, but grab me in the corridors for a one-on-one demo of our platform, API and blog plugins for Movable Type and Wordpress.
I'm really looking forward hearing the talks tonight, all the Ignite events I went to have been really thought provoking and entertaining.
